Fort De Soto Park sits at the mouth of Tampa Bay and offers a perfect mix of grass flats, sandy beaches, channels, and pass edges—making it a top inshore fishing destination. Work potholes and grass lines for speckled trout, redfish, snook, and flounder, and fish the deeper cuts for snapper, jacks, and seasonal Spanish mackerel. Incoming tide pushes clean water and bait into the bay side; outgoing tide concentrates fish at drop-offs and points. Live shrimp, scaled sardines (greenbacks), paddle tails, and topwaters all produce depending on light and tide. Wading, shore casting, and kayak fishing are all excellent here, and it’s a reliable “any time of year” spot when you time your tides and cover water.
