The Populo HAP is a historic shipwreck site off Miami-Dade County, marking the final resting place of a 14-gun Spanish treasure fleet scout galleon that sank on July 14, 1733. Sitting in approximately 30 feet of water, this wreck is part of Florida’s Underwater Archaeological Preserve and offers divers and anglers a glimpse into maritime history. The surrounding reef structure attracts yellowtail snapper, grunt, and small grouper. Although protected from artifact collection, fishing nearby can be productive for reef species. Clear water and easy access make this a must-visit for history buffs and light-tackle anglers alike.
